South Orange Grove-Los Angeles, CA
This young family's starter home had a lifeless backyard where the intensity of the sun rendered the yard essentially unusable. With the initial goal of shade, we designed a trellis with built-in bench seating to serve as the focal point for the yard. We removed a significant area of concrete that allowed us to then plant a variety of shade trees, vines and colorful, drought tolerant plants. The diversity of plants attracts butterflies and hummingbirds while producing a variety of foods including pomegranate, blueberries, artichikes and rosemary. The delight the senses, the garden also features varieties of lavender and jasmine.
